About this species
Powder Blue Isopods (Porcellionides pruinosus) are a fast, active species with a soft powdery-blue coating. They reproduce quickly, tolerate a wide range of conditions, and are one of the best clean-up crews for bioactive terrariums. An ideal beginner isopod and a feeder/cleaner staple.
- Size:
- ~12 mm
- Enclosure:
- A ventilated plastic tub or terrarium. They stay active and work well as a clean-up crew.
- Diet:
- Leaf litter and decaying matter, vegetables, and a protein source. Supplement with calcium such as cuttlebone or limestone.
- Temperature Range:
- Maintain temperatures between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Reproduction:
- Very prolific. Short generations and big broods once the culture gets going.
- Substrate:
- Coconut coir or peat moss with leaf litter. Keep it slightly moist; they tolerate drier conditions well.
- Humidity:
- Maintain a moderate environment with a damp side and good ventilation. Tolerates semi-arid setups.
